Preparing for the New Roman Missal / New Music
For the next few months, we will be practicing and slowly implementing the new music reflecting the changes in the revised Roman Missal. Music from Mass of Christ the Savior by Dan Schutte will be the first new mass setting we will learn together as a parish. Read below for more information regarding each new mass part and to listen to a professional recording of the new music.
1) The Gloria: The refrain to the Gloria has been changed from “Glory to God in highest and peace to His people on earth” to “Glory to God in the highest and peace to people of good will“. Click to here to hear the new Gloria.
2) Holy, Holy: Only few words have changed in the Holy, Holy. It has been changed from “Holy, holy, holy Lord God of power and might” to “Holy, holy, holy Lord God of hosts”. Click here to hear the new Holy, Holy.
3) The Mystery of Faith (formerly known as the Memorial Acclamation): These have changed so that they are proclaimed in the first person. The “Christ has died, Christ has risen, Christ has come again” acclamation has not been included in the new translation. There are three different proclamations:
a) We proclaim your death, O Lord, and profess your resurrection until you come again. Click here to hear a recording.
b) When we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim your death, O Lord, until you come again. Click here to hear a recording.
c) Save us, Savior of the world, for by your cross and resurrection you have set us free.
4) Great Amen: This has not changed. It’s just “Amen”! But the music is new. Click here for a recording.
5) Lamb of God: This has not changed. The words are the same, but the music is new. Click here for a recording.
